6913. Penelope THOMPSON OR Thomas
From book of 7th GGS, Wendell Haws Eyring Jr.
Ancestral File Number 8XL8-D7 and 3LWZ-D6 and 345B-Q2
Penelope came to America with her husband, Kent Van Prince. Their ship was wrecked off Sandy Hook, New Jersey. Her husband was injured getting to shore and could not keep up with the survivors hurrying get to New Amsterdam before the Indians got them!! Penelope refused to leave her husband, so the others went on. The Indians did get Penelope and her husband, killing him. But Penelope did not die and holding her intestines in with her badly damaged hands and arms while hurting from a badly fractured skull. She survived in a hollow tree until some more Indians came along. She was so glad to see them because she was sure they would kill her and put her out of her misery. But the old Indian in the group would not let the others kill her. He took her to his Wigwam and nursed her back to health. Then he took her to New Amsterdam and sold her for a nice profit. There she met and married Richard Stout. Penelope is listed as Van Princess in many sources. That was her first husband's last name. Crown Publishers Inc. New York shows her last name to be Thomas or Thompson.
