August 2003 Journal

01 August 2003 ............... Friday I start off this day, at 12:01amMST, at Calence, Inc. After I transition with David Shirey I drive to Casa Grande to see how David Gunderson is doing on his Eagle Project. I get there about 10:30amMST. Whereas David had thought they were going to be done by about 10am!!!!!! I could quickly see that they would NOT get done today at all They had no Drinking Water and nothing to eat!! I went to get gas in the Silverado and I got several gallons of water and bags of ice and some cups Also I got a bunch of cookies and nuts. Later I went to fill the Propane Bottles I had laying in the back of the pickup and I got two(2) pizza's and soda pop and milk and took them to "Cruz Park" where David and gang are refurbishing the Ramada for David's Eagle Project. I should have gotten four(4) pizzas!! Finally I just have to go home and get some sleep having been up and going since about 7pmMST, Yesterday and being 64 Years OLD. [frown] I just ain't what I used to be!! When I awake from my Nap, Marilee is there, home from work, and asking questions about David. I say that I don't know and that I am heading to Casa Grande to find out. Marilee goes with me, but when we get to "Cruz Park" there is noone there and it is obvious that the Project is NOT completed. When we get back home, David and Andrew are there so they can fill us in on how it went today. They are going back in the moring to finish the job. David asks if he can take my Silverado tomorrow and I say "Yes, as long as I am in it".[smile]

02 August 2003 ................................... Saturday Marilee goes to work. David and Andrew and I go to Pearson's where we get the ladders and three(3) peason boys to help us complete the project. Again I am busy running errands like getting parts and supplies and food and water and ice. Finally when I bring some "sweet and sour" Chicken about about 12:30pmMST, I find that the job is done and the only ones left there are David, Andrew, Rachel, Ashley. We take a break, eat the food, drink the drinks, then clean up and go home.

03 August 2003 .......................... Sunday In Sacrament Meeting today, Bishop Cozart has David Gunderson stand up and then gives David Special Recognition for having done his "Eagle Project" yesterday. During the Testimony Portion of Sacrament Meeting, David gets up and tells about his "Eagle Project" and the things he learned and how the Gospel is true and Scouting is true. The Gospel Doctrine Class with teacher Marilee Eyring, is superb today. The Spirit is there and the message was received. Thank you Marilee Sara goes back to Utah today. Levi and David and Melissa go to the airport to see her off.

04 August 2003 ............................. Monday Marilee goes to work today. I go to the Clerk's Office where I do some catching up on My Financial Clerk Responsibilities. I get milk and a sausage egg mcmuffin at Wal*Mart. I wash clothes and install a bug killer light and pull weeds and burn weeds and move horses and lots of other things. Levi comes from Tucson to take David to Wal*Mart in Coolidge to exchange computer gave that Levi had bought for David. I guess it did not go well because Wal*Mart did not have another one...... We have an excessive amount of Bugs this summer and we are fighting them. I put up the bug killer light, we have quit using the house outside lights, we are calking all the cracks, and using bug bombs as often as we can. I take David and Melissa to Grandmother's so they can visit with Robby and Josh [Ginnia's boys] who are here from Wisconsin. I end up this day by driving to Calence, Inc, where I transition with Jared Harding.

05 August 2003 .................... Tuesday I start off this at 12:01amMST at Calence, Inc. About 12:20amMST, I get a call from David, at LaRee's, asking if I can take the Casa Grande City Tile Saw, back to the City, tomorrow, since he [David] will not be there to do that. I said yes. David gave me the Contact Person of Mary Johnson, Head of the Parks and Recreation Department for Casa Grande, phone number 520-421-8677-451. I told David to take a look at www.wendelleyring.com, because I have already made available some on the Eagle Scout Project, Photographs. David did look, then call me back to say they look great and "Thanks". At 08:30amMST I transition with David Shirey/Kevin Meeks since there is a big outage going on in Bombay, India. After getting to Paradise, I move the horses then change my clothes. Next I load up the Tile Cutting Saw and take it to the City of Casa Grande, as I told David I would do. I fill the truck with gasoline then I go back to Paradise and get some sleep. Later I wash clothes and burn weeds along the North/South Ditch. I never do get to see my dear wife, Marilee today, and I miss her. In the evening I drive to Calence where I transition with Jared Harding.

06 August 2003 ..................... Wednesday I began this day at Calence, Inc. At 8amMST I transition to Michael Flores, then I attend an "Operations Meeting" conducted by Kevin Meeks. Attending were Jared Harding, Craig Stolins, David Shirey, Brad Curcio and Myself. When I get off work at 9am I drive to Grandmother's where I get David and Melissa. They have been visiting there since Monday evening when I dropped them off there. We then drive to Wal*Mart, in Coolidge, where we get some food items, then we drive to Paradise. David helps me move the horses to fresh grass. At 3pm David takes Melissa to the home of Bishop Cozart so she can attend the Diamondback Base Ball game with the Mutual. Guess what.....The Diamondbacks win the game!!! Today I get a special treat....I get to see my wife, Marilee!! been several days since I did see here. Today she got home from work, just before I left for work, so we could visit for a few minutes. I drive to Calence, Inc. where I transition with Scott Thompson. On this day in 1945, we dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. Little Boy was the first nuclear weapon used in warfare. It exploded approximately 1,800 feet over Hiroshima, Japan, on the morning of August 6, 1945, with a force equal to 13,000 tons of TNT. Immediate deaths were between 70,000 to 130,000. Little Boy was dropped from a B-29 bomber piloted by U.S. Army Air Force Col. Paul W. Tibbets. Tibbets had named the plane Enola Gay after his mother the night before the atomic attack. Correct me, if I am wrong, but I think it was on this day in 1946 when the "Enola Gay" dropped "Fat Boy" on Hiroshima.

07 August 2003 ............................ Thursday I begin this day at 12:00:01amMST at Calence, Inc. About 1amMST Remedy quit working so I had to get through the night using paper and pencil. It was OK because I did not have much in the way of Fault Management. After I transition with Craig Stolins I meet with Kevin Meeks for a bit, then I drive to Home Depot, in Chandler, where I purchase a Bug "Zapper" Light and a Timer to run it. I then drive to the Post Office in Casa Grande where I mail the Silverado Payment for August. I fill up with gas at Albertson's @ $1.38.9 per gallon. I drive to Paradise where I move the horses to fresh grass. Levi is there to pickup David and Melissa and take them to Tucson. I do not get to see Marilee, at all, today......or even talk to her on the phone. That is NOT good. I sleep, then put up the Bug "Zapper" light at the South end of the pasture, the burn weeds. Hardy's come by for Home Teaching and we have a nice visit and I show them how the Weed Burner works. I shower then sleep till 8pm. I drive to Calence, Inc, where I transition with Scott Noga.

08 August 2003 ............................... Friday I begin this day at Calence at 12:00:01amMST.

09 August 2003 ................................ Saturday Hank Gregory Eyring, our fourth(4) child and third(3) sone was born on this day in 1966. On this day in 1945 we dropped and atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. Fat Man was the second nuclear weapon used in warfare. Dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, on August 9, 1945, Fat Man devastated more than two square miles of the city and caused approximately 45,000 immediate deaths. Major Charles W. Sweeney piloted the B-29, #77 that dropped Fat Man. After the nuclear mission, #77 was christened Bockscar after its regular Command Pilot, Fred Bock. While Little Boy was a uranium gun-type device, Fat Man was a more complicated and powerful plutonium implosion weapon that exploded with a force equal to 20 kilotons of TNT. CAIDD turned on the water to us, at 07:30amMST. We had a good irrigation today. As ususal I was tired beyond belief today. In the evening, Marilee pointed out to me that the Water Heater had run out of Propane. I went out and changed tanks. Then during the "bleeding" process, the water ignited, in my face, and I was slightly burned. Greatly surprised, but just barely burned. The brief fire did some damage within the water heater itself and burned up the wiring.

10 August 2003 .............................. Sunday David and I went Home Teaching today, having nice visits with the Lara's and the Haines, but Sonya was not there. Marilee did an outstanding job of Teaching the "Gospel Doctrine" today. I did a fair job of teacing the "High Priests" group. After church is over at 5pm I stay and help Les Grover do the Donations. Then David brings me something to eat and we then attend the Stake Priesthood Meeting presided over by President Gibson.

13 August 2003 ......................... Wednesday --- Uncle Alma Died today I begin this day at 12:01:01amMST at Calence, Inc. After I transition with Craig Stolins I drive to Paradise. Marilee is there and we go buy two horse panels from Roper's in Picacho. Today we received word from My Cousin, Paul Ray Millet, that his Father, Alma Millet, has passed away Levi brings Melissa back from Tucson and I get to see him for a few minutes. I finish off the day at Calence, Inc., after I transition with Scott Thompson.

14 August 2003 ............................ Thursday I begin this day at 12:01:01amMST at Calence, Inc. Copy of the E-Mail sent out to the Calence Operations team by it's Manager, Kevin Meeks Operations Team, I am sad to say that Wendell has announced his retirement. He will be working with us until the late fall (no given date yet). He has been with us for 3.5 years and has been a great asset for Calence. He has been a rock during the night shifts and we will be sad to see him go. I am mentioning his retirement so early for 2 reasons. First, I want Wendell to have a great send-off and I figured it would take about 3 months to really give him a well-deserved goodbye. Second, it will take a long time to find someone of his (and CMSs) caliber to help fill the void that will be left by Wendell. Please keep your eyes posted for a good candidate. The biggest Power Outage in American History happened today, apparently starting about 5pmMST. It was on the East Coast so we were no directly affected here in Arizona and I did not really know about it till I arrive at work at Calence at 10pmMST. New York City was basicly SHUT DOWN, ...........and we had a lot of outages in HPOV Maps.

15 August 2003 .......................... Friday I am Very busy this morning, at Calence, dealing with the power outage in the North East US. Biggest in US History. Fifty (50) million people out of Power last night and today. Do not yet know, why it went down.

16 August 2003 .............. Saturday - Gas lines and shortages are the news of the day. Haws Reunion today, but I cannot go. Just too tired and too busy and too broke.

18 August 2003 ........................... Monday -- Funeral for Uncle Alma Gasoline cannot be had in the Salt River Valley, unless you can find a Station open and you are willing to wait an hour or so, in line.The Government and the Environmentalist have struck again. In the words of a very great American Government is not the solution to the problem Government IS the problem. I did not attend the Funeral for Uncle Alma. I should have, I wanted to but just too busy, too broke, too tired. My Tiredness, at this time, is unexplainable and very serious......To get through a day of work, in Paradise, I must take at least two, two hour naps, where as just a few years ago, even a few months ago, I could work straight from 5am till 9 or 10 pm.......This seem to be a bigger problem then just OLD AGE!! For Family Home Evening, I drive to Taco Bell, while Marilee drives to CGHS to get David, then drives to Taco Bell, where we enjoy each others company and some darn good Mexican Food. There is a terrible Gasoline Shortage so it is decided after some phone calls getween andrew and don and us that Andrew should not even go to Chanlder, tonight, but stay with us in Paradise, because Andrew would not be able to buy any Gasoline in Chandler. I ended this day up by driving to Tempe, Calence, Inc. where I transition with Jared Harding. Things are mess at Calence......Three Five Systems has been "Down Hard" since 8amMST. This is a T3 line that is down and Qwest still does not even know why it is down!! That is unacceptable. Also Nationwide Credit has a T1 Line that has been down for a long time.. Lots of other things happening also, including a BEAreaspace T1 that was down but has now come up.

19 August 2003 ............................. Tuesday I begin this day at 12:00:01amMST, at Calence, Inc. in Tempe Arizona.

20 August 2003 ............................. Wednesday I start off this day at 12:00:01amMST at Calence, Inc. in Tempe, Arizona. VERY VERY busy with Fault Management...................... At one point I contact 2nd Level, Rich Lesniak, and give him two(2) RTN's to work because I just cannot get to them!! When Jared Harding arrives, to transition with me, I give him to phone calls to deal with, RIGHT NOW, before he even sits down and we actually do TRANSITION.!!! On the way home, I call Nextel, and place an order for two(2) new Cell Phones, with the "Walkie Talkie" feature, so Marilee and I can communicate better. Some days we don't see or talk to each other, at all, and that is NOT good. When I arrive home, in Paradise, the irrigation water is there so Marilee and I go to work on that. I move the horses, Orion and Blaze, off the pasture. We have a really good irrigation, with no uncontrolled breakthroughs. In the eveing, I gather up all five(5) gas cans, that I am able to find, drive to Flying J, in Eloy, fill up the gas cans AND My Silverado AND two(2) ten(10) gallon Propane tanks. Then I drive to Calence, Inc., arrive there at my regular 09:55pmMST When I arrive at Calence, Inc. Scott Thompson transitions to me Fourteen(14) Remedy Tickets. WOW 5 RTN's will keep you head over heels BUSY if they are all active. 10 RTN's cannot be kept up with, if they are busy ones. 14......I will probabl be calling 2nd Level for help, tonight.....

21 August 2003 ............................. Thursday I begin this day at 12:00:01amMST at Calence in Tempe. At 8am I transition to Jared Harding. In the evening, after a nice visit with Marilee, David, Marilee, I feed the horses, then I drive to Calence, Inc. in Tempe Arizona, where I transition with Scott Noga.

22 August 2003 ............................ Friday I begin this day at 12:00:01amMST at Calence, Inc. in Tempe, AZ.

24 August 2003 ................................ Sunday Marilee goes to work, at Desert Samaratin Hospital, early, so she can get off early and Meet us at Church at 2pm. That works out well. Marilee does a WONDERFUL job of teaching the Gospel Doctrine Class today. I am glad I was there for it. On the way home from Church, I go through Eloy in an attempt to with Sonja, the only Home Teaching I have left to do, but she is not home, so the job remains NOT DONE.

25 August 2003 ................................ Monday I put new blower bearing in the Cooler today. It is a lot quieter now. The new bearing were in the wrong Pillow Blocks, so I put the new bearings into the old Pillow Blocks. Marilee did a lot of work with the Horses and the Dogs and the Cats. She sure knows how to make a house a home In the evening I drive to Calence where I transition with Jared Harding.

26 August 2003 ..................................... Tuesday Today Ventures On Line finally fixed my CPanel so it reflects the amount of disk space and I used and the amount I still have available. I drove through a lot of very heavy rain, on my way to work at Calence this evening.

27 August 2003 ..................................... Wednesday I start off this day at 12:00:01amMST at Calence, Inc. in Tempe, AZ. at 8amMST I transition with David Shirey. When I arrive in Paradise, I move the horses then I go to bed until time to pick up David and Melissa from school.,br> Phoenix and Georgia get out of their pen again today. After I say goodnight to Marilee and Melissa, I drive to Albertson in Chandler where I purchase a few things to eat at work. Then I drive on to Calence, Inc. in Tempe, AZ, where I transition with Scott Thompson.

28 August 2003 ..................................... Thursday I begin this day at 12:00:01amMST at Calence, Inc. in Tempe, AZ. Today, when I get to Paradise, I sleep, till time to go to work. Just too tired to do anything else..... I finish off this day be driving to Calence in Tempe where I transition with Craig Stolins.

29 August 2003 ..................................... Friday I start off this day at 12:00:01amMST at Calence, Inc.

30 August 2003 ..................................... Saturday Today we have a Birthday Party for Melissa, whose Birthday is on 06 September 2003. Attending are Marilee, Ann, Rob, Bridgette, David, Andrew, Melissa, Myself. We have a good time visiting and playing kickball then eating the good food.

31 August 2003 ..................................... Sunday Marilee does not go to work today, so we get the morning together. Marilee teaches the "Gospel Doctrine" Class today and the "Spirit" was there. We are fortunate to have such a fine teacher. Priesthood and Relief Society meet together today and the Elder's Quorum, Brother Hogle, do the teaching. After Church, Brother Grover and I do the donations. I then wait till David is done with his meeting with Bishop Cozart, then David and I drive to Paradise. Then Marilee and David and Andrew and Melissa drive to Sierra Vista for a nice visit with Ann, Rob, Bridgette. I finish off this day, and this Month, by driving to Tempe, AZ, Calence, Inc., where I transition with Scott Noga.
